After dedicating 25 years of his life to the Rotterdam Zoo, Mario Ejis was no longer able to work due to terminal cancer. As his condition worsened, he had one final wish—to visit the zoo he loved one last time.
In a powerful and emotional moment, Mario was brought to the zoo by a special ambulance. As he arrived at the giraffe enclosure, something extraordinary happened. The giraffes, who clearly recognized him, gently approached the window, offering soft kisses and comforting nudges, as if sensing his pain and saying goodbye.
This touching scene is a beautiful reminder of the deep emotional connections animals can form. Mario not only got to see his zoo family again, but also received an unforgettable farewell from the creatures he once cared for.
